Hide From Dock is a little utility that will enable a Hide menu item in your applications's Dock menus. Apple's Dock natively supports this feature, but its configuration file just tells it not to display it. While this looks fine if you don't use Dock menus a lot, it's a shame for multi-button mice users. Try it…
How does it work?
Hide From Dock adds a few items to your Dock configuration file. These items will enable the Dock to display a dynamic Hide menu item — dynamic since when the option key is down, it changes to Hide Others.
Hide From Dock is also able to remove the menu items it has previously added. HFD's editing button will dynamically reflect its abilities.
Since the Dock configuration file is owned by root, you will need an administration password to use Hide From Dock.
A note about languages
Apple's Dock is localized for any language supported by Mac OS X, and each language has its own Dock configuration file. Hide From Dock is "smart". Though its interface isn't localized for all these languages — if people want to donate a few minutes to translate HFD to their language, they can
contact me — it is able to edit the Dock configuration file for the following languages: Brazilian Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Finnish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Simplified Chinese, Spanish, Swedish, Traditional Chinese. Hide From Dock will only update the current language's file. If you want to edit your Dock configuration file for multiple languages, you will have to switch active languages in System Preferences.
FAQ
Q When an application is hidden, why does its Dock menu still display the "Hide" menu item — i.e. instead of "Show"?
A Technically speaking, Hide From Dock doesn't modify your Dock. It just reveals one of its deliberately hidden features. Since Apple chose not to include this feature in Mac OS X, it wasn't coded with as much care as others. If you appreciate being able to hide your applications from the Dock, you should send a
feedback e-mail to Apple. Hopefully, this feature will be improved and included in a new version of Mac OS X.

Hide From Dock is a freeware — this means you can use it as long as you like, for free — and is provided as is, WITHOUT ANY WARRANTY. Though it has been tested and should work reliably, I will not be responsible if it trashes your Dock.
